Lightning strike leaves Phil Mickelson with race against time at BMW

(CNN) — Golf great Phil Mickelson has been finding it a struggle on the path in recent weeks so could have done without a freak occurrence which left his involvement in the final form of the BMW Championship at Medinah in some doubt.
Even the 49-year-old American is remaining like many other players and officials at the Eaglewood Hotel, close to the program, but surely reckoned with no being hit by lightning Sunday morning.
A fire ensued after the strike, with all the Chicago fire department arriving on the scene to put out it, but also evacuating the resort guests, such as Mickelson.
With a scheduled early tee off time at 10.52 am local, Mickelson was abandoned without his clubs and clothes and used social media to discuss his issue.
Fortunately,’Lefty’ was granted back in just in time and arrived in the route with about half an hour to spare with this fourth round, requiring a shocking charge up the field to get any chance of making the top 30 qualifying for the Tour Championship finale in East Lake weekly.
Sadly, after his first morning hiatus, Mickelson could discover little inspiration at his final round and still searching for the form which saw him triumph for the 44th season on the PGA Tour in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am back in February.
He finished to get.
His longtime arch-rival Tiger Woods also failed to make up for East Lake, in which he’d have been defending champion, briefly raising hopes with two early birdies before dropping back down the area.
He finished using a level-par 72 to get 281 – seven-under-par.
Victory went into third round leader Justin Thomas, who pulled off a determined challenge from fellow American Patrick Cantlay to win by three strokes on 25-under-par.
Cantlay carded a final round 65 with Hideki Matsuyama of Japan that a further two shots back after a brilliant nine-under 63.
Thomas has taken over top position in the FedEx Cup standings out of Brooks Koepka, that directed Mickelson in the final round and ended using a five-under-par 67, his best of the week.
Cantlay has also proceeded forward of Koepka into second position, but with still to play for in the season-ending tournament in Atlanta.
